The academy was founded in September 2024 by Paulina, with the goal of sharing her extensive experience in sewing and pattern making, inherited from generations past and refined through the Martí System. Inspired by the vision and legacy of Carmen Martí, the academy seeks to preserve the classic method, teach rigorously yet with a personal touch, and train new generations of seamstresses and designers. All classes are in person, allowing for a hands-on, direct, and personalized experience, just as true instruction in the craft demands.
I'm Paulina
I was born in 1973 and grew up surrounded by fabrics, patterns, and sewing machines. From a very young age, I learned the trade at home, watching, helping, and exploring alongside my mother and grandmother, who were both professional seamstresses. For me, sewing has always been a natural process, an inherited passion that has stayed with me throughout my life. Over the years, I have specialized in designing costumes for dance performance, creating highly complex and technically demanding haute couture dresses. I have been fortunate enough to work for leading brands in the industry, an experience that has allowed me to learn a great deal and refine every detail, always with the pattern as the starting point.
The Martí System has been a key element in my training and in shaping my understanding of sewing. After receiving an honorary award, I found in this method the perfect tool to unite tradition and technique. Thanks to it, I was inspired to found my own academy, with the aim of offering clear, solid instruction based on real-world experience. Passionate about sewing and with a strong vocation for teaching, today I enjoy sharing my knowledge, training new generations, and keeping alive a craft that combines creativity, technique, and a great deal of dedication.
What is the Martí System?
The Martí System is a pattern-making, cutting, and sewing method based on the direct application of body measurements, regardless of shape or proportions. Thanks to this system, a single pattern can be adapted to all sizes, combining precision, technique, and tradition. It was created and perfected by Carmen Martí de Missé (St. Quirze de Bessora, 1872 – St. Vicenç de Montalt, 1949), a woman ahead of her time, a visionary and a fighter, who even defied the resistance of her own family. She was born in an era when women depended on men for survival. From a young age, she accompanied her seamstress mother and observed how she transformed fabrics into custom-made garments, learning the patience, technique, and ingenuity that sewing requires.
In those days, garments were made directly on the body, with endless fittings and adjustments. Carmen, curious and observant, began to imagine a different method, based on precise mathematical calculations and transformations that would allow patterns to be adapted to any type of garment. At 13, Carmen faced a difficult challenge: she lost her mother and was sent to the Sacramentarias convent in Vic. Far from giving up, in that strict environment, the seed of her revolution in sewing was born. Carmen Martí demonstrated that innovation, passion, and determination could transform a craft. Her vision, her method, and her fighting spirit continue to inspire those who love sewing and precision, keeping alive a legacy of art, technique, and creativity.
